Who Is Joining Lightspeed’s Marketing Leadership Team?

Lightspeed Venture Partners is strengthening its marketing leadership team with the appointment of Rohit Kaul, according to sources familiar with the development.

Kaul is expected to replace former Vice President of Marketing and Communications Mansi Chugh, who recently exited the firm after spending nearly four years in the role.

The appointment comes at a significant time for Lightspeed as the venture capital firm sharpens focus on India and Southeast Asia amid evolving startup market conditions and increased pressure on portfolio performance.

Industry experts believe venture capital firms are increasingly investing in branding, ecosystem engagement and founder outreach as competition for high-quality startup deals intensifies.

What Experience Does Rohit Kaul Bring To Lightspeed?

Before joining Lightspeed, Kaul served as Vice President of Marketing at Blume Ventures, a role he held since February 2023.

Prior to Blume Ventures, he worked with firms including Sacra and HCL.

Industry observers believe Kaul’s experience across venture capital, technology and startup ecosystem branding could support Lightspeed’s efforts to strengthen its positioning in India’s competitive investment landscape.

Queries sent to Kaul and Lightspeed reportedly did not receive an immediate response until publication.

Why Is Marketing Becoming Important For Venture Capital Firms?

The appointment comes amid growing competition among venture capital firms to attract founders, strengthen portfolio support and improve ecosystem visibility.

Over the last few years, global VC firms operating in India have increasingly built dedicated teams across marketing, communications, talent and founder relations.

Industry analysts note that brand visibility and founder engagement have become strategic differentiators as investment firms compete for access to high-potential startups.

Lightspeed has been among the most active global investors in India’s startup ecosystem, backing companies across fintech, SaaS, ecommerce and consumer internet sectors.

Its portfolio includes startups such as OYO, Udaan, ShareChat, PhysicsWallah and Pocket FM.

Has Lightspeed Seen Other Leadership Changes Recently?

The latest appointment follows multiple senior-level changes within Lightspeed’s communications and marketing functions over the past few years.

Earlier, Carina Chopra had also exited the firm after serving for around three-and-a-half years.

Industry observers believe leadership restructuring within venture capital firms often reflects broader organisational expansion and evolving regional investment priorities.

Is Lightspeed Preparing To Raise Another India-Focused Fund?

The development also comes as Lightspeed is reportedly preparing to raise its fifth India and Southeast Asia-focused investment fund.

According to media reports, the firm is targeting a corpus of around $500 million for the new fund.

Despite a broader slowdown in global startup funding, India continues to remain one of the world’s largest venture capital markets driven by strong digital adoption, expanding consumer internet ecosystems and rising enterprise technology innovation.

Analysts believe Lightspeed’s continued investment and fundraising activity signals long-term confidence in the Indian and Southeast Asian startup ecosystems.
