India-Origin Executive Takes Charge as Chairman Alongside CEO Role at $346 Billion Consumer Goods Giant

The Procter & Gamble Company (P&G) has appointed Shailesh G. Jejurikar as Chairman of the Board, effective August 1, making him the first India-origin executive to simultaneously lead the world’s most valuable fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) company as both Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Chairman.

The announcement marks another milestone in Jejurikar’s remarkable 37-year journey at P&G. He succeeds Jon Moeller, who will retire as Executive Chairman on July 31 and officially leave the company on August 14, according to the company’s statement.

With a market capitalisation of approximately $346 billion (₹33.1 trillion), P&G is among the world’s largest consumer goods companies, selling products in over 180 countries.

A 37-Year Journey from Mumbai to Global Leadership

Shailesh Jejurikar joined P&G on July 1, 1989, as an Assistant Brand Manager after completing his MBA from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Lucknow.

Born in Mumbai, he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Mumbai before pursuing management studies.

Over nearly four decades, Jejurikar has held leadership roles across developed and emerging markets, steadily rising through the organisation to become one of its most influential executives.

He officially assumed the role of President and CEO in January 2026, becoming the first India-origin executive to lead the nearly 190-year-old multinational.

Taking Over from Jon Moeller

As Chairman, Jejurikar succeeds Jon Moeller, who spent 38 years with P&G in several senior leadership positions, including Chief Financial Officer, Chief Operating Officer, Chief Executive Officer, and Executive Chairman.

In a statement, Jejurikar thanked Moeller for his leadership, saying his strategic vision played a significant role in shaping P&G’s long-term success.

He also acknowledged Moeller’s dedication to the company and its employees throughout his tenure.

The transition reflects P&G’s long-term leadership succession strategy while ensuring continuity at the top of the organisation.

Leading One of P&G’s Biggest Businesses

Before becoming CEO, Jejurikar served as Chief Operating Officer, overseeing several global markets, including:

  • India
  • Latin America
  • Middle East
  • Africa
  • Southeast Asia
  • Eastern Europe

He was also responsible for key business functions such as:

  • Manufacturing

  • Global business services

Earlier in his career, he led P&G’s Fabric & Home Care division, the company’s largest business segment, which accounts for nearly one-third of its global sales and profits.

The division includes globally recognised brands such as Tide, Ariel, Downy, Gain, Febreze, and Swiffer.

Driving Innovation and Sustainability

Throughout his leadership career, Jejurikar has been recognised for driving innovation, operational excellence, and sustainable growth.

Between 2016 and 2021, he played a key role in advancing P&G’s global sustainability initiatives while strengthening research and development, brand building, and end-to-end supply chain capabilities.

His leadership has focused on improving consumer experience through innovation while maintaining operational efficiency across global markets.

FY27 Outlook: Navigating Cost Pressures

Alongside announcing the leadership transition, P&G also shared its financial outlook for FY2027.

The company expects approximately $1 billion in after-tax headwinds due to rising raw material, energy, and transportation costs.

Additional pressures include:

  • $150 million from higher net interest expenses.
  • $150 million from lower non-operating income.
  • $50 million from unfavourable foreign exchange movements.

Despite these challenges, Jejurikar said the company remains confident about delivering sustainable growth by focusing on consumers, productivity, innovation, and disciplined execution.

Another India-Origin Global Business Leader

Jejurikar joins a distinguished group of India-origin executives who have led some of the world’s largest consumer companies.

Notable names include:

  • Indra Nooyi (PepsiCo)
  • Leena Nair (Chanel)
  • Laxman Narasimhan (Starbucks)
  • Mahesh Madhavan (Bacardi)
  • Sameer Suneja (Perfetti Van Melle)

His elevation further highlights the growing influence of Indian business leaders in global boardrooms.

Outlook

Shailesh Jejurikar’s appointment as Chairman represents a defining moment both for P&G and for Indian leadership in global business.

As the company navigates inflationary pressures and changing consumer demand, Jejurikar will be responsible for steering one of the world’s largest FMCG companies through its next phase of growth.

With nearly four decades of experience across operations, innovation, and international markets, his expanded role positions him to shape P&G’s long-term strategy while reinforcing the company’s leadership in the global consumer goods industry.
