Ride-Hailing Giant Strengthens Presence Beyond Metros, Taking Uber Bike to Over 220 Cities Across India

Uber has expanded its Uber Bike service to 100 additional cities across India, taking the two-wheeler ride-hailing offering to more than 220 cities nationwide. The latest expansion spans 18 states and one Union Territory, marking one of the company’s largest network expansions in the country.

The newly added locations include Jammu, Tirunelveli, Silchar, Jamnagar, and several other emerging cities, where Uber Bike will cater to short-distance commuting as well as first and last-mile connectivity.

Focus on Growing Mobility Beyond Major Cities

The expansion aligns with Uber’s strategy of strengthening its presence beyond India’s metropolitan markets while building a comprehensive multimodal mobility platform.

Alongside bike taxis, Uber currently offers auto-rickshaws, cab services, airport transfers and intercity travel through its platform, enabling users to choose transport options based on distance, convenience and affordability.

By expanding Uber Bike into smaller cities, the company aims to address growing demand for affordable and accessible urban mobility solutions.

Creating More Earning Opportunities

Uber said the expansion is expected to generate flexible earning opportunities for tens of thousands of local drivers across the newly launched markets.

According to the company, more than two million Indians currently earn through Uber’s platform, either as drivers or delivery partners, making it one of the country’s largest technology-enabled mobility ecosystems.

Independence Day Offer and Safety Features

To mark the expansion, Uber has introduced a limited-period Independence Day campaign, offering first-time users a free first Uber Bike ride.

The company also highlighted its in-app safety features, including real-time driver identity verification, trip sharing, an SOS button and a 24×7 safety support line, aimed at enhancing rider confidence and ensuring a safer commuting experience.

Outlook

Uber’s latest expansion reflects its continued focus on deepening its presence in India’s fast-growing mobility market beyond Tier-I cities. As demand for affordable and efficient transport rises across smaller urban centres, Uber Bike is expected to play a larger role in last-mile connectivity while creating additional income opportunities for local driver partners and strengthening Uber’s multimodal transportation ecosystem.
