Why Has CBSE Extended The Re-Evaluation Application Deadline?
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has extended the deadline for Class 12 students to apply for verification and re-evaluation of their answer sheets by one day, following complaints regarding technical issues on its post-result services portal.
In an announcement made on Friday, the board said students will now be able to submit applications until midnight on June 7, instead of the earlier deadline of June 6.
The extension comes after several students reported difficulties accessing scanned copies of answer books and submitting requests for verification and re-evaluation through the online portal, which was launched on June 2.
“In the interest of students, the CBSE has decided to extend the last date for submission of applications for verification and re-evaluation for the Class 12 board examinations, thereby providing students additional time and support to complete the process,” the board said in a post on X.
What Services Are Available Through The CBSE Portal?
The board opened the online portal earlier this week to allow students to review scanned copies of their answer books and report any discrepancies in the evaluation process.
Students can raise concerns related to missing pages, missing supplementary sheets, absent maps or graphs, blurred pages, incorrect answer books, or evaluation against the wrong question paper set.
The initiative is part of CBSE’s revised post-result verification process aimed at improving transparency and allowing students to identify potential errors before seeking re-evaluation.
The board has advised students to carefully review their scanned answer books and submit applications within the revised deadline.
What Is The Controversy Around CBSE Answer Sheets?
The deadline extension comes amid a growing controversy surrounding the evaluation process of the 2026 Class 12 board examinations.
Several students alleged that the scanned copies of answer sheets uploaded by the board did not match their handwriting, raising concerns about possible mismatches during the on-screen marking (OSM) process used for evaluating answer books.
The allegations sparked widespread discussion on social media, with students and parents demanding clarity from the board regarding the evaluation mechanism.
The issue has also drawn the attention of government authorities due to concerns about the integrity of the assessment process.
Why Has The Government Ordered A Probe?
In response to the controversy, the Cabinet Secretariat has announced the formation of a one-member committee to investigate the procurement of services related to the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system used by CBSE.
The committee will examine the procurement process and review concerns surrounding the evaluation mechanism following complaints raised by students.
While the investigation is underway, CBSE has maintained that students should continue using the verification and re-evaluation process available through the portal to report any issues observed in their answer sheets.
What Should Students Do Next?
Students seeking verification or re-evaluation of their Class 12 board examination answer sheets should complete the process before the revised deadline of June 7 at midnight.
CBSE has urged students to carefully review the available documents, identify any discrepancies, and submit applications through the official post-result services portal within the stipulated timeline.
The board is expected to provide further updates regarding the evaluation controversy and the ongoing inquiry into the OSM system in the coming weeks.
