Noida Airport Begins Commercial Operations
Noida International Airport officially commenced flight operations on Monday, marking a major milestone in India’s aviation infrastructure expansion.
The airport welcomed its first incoming flight operated by IndiGo from Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport before launching its inaugural outbound service to Lucknow shortly afterward.
According to airport officials, IndiGo flight 6E 2278 departed Lucknow at 7:12 AM and landed at the newly operational airport in Jewar at 7:58 AM.
The arrival marked the formal beginning of commercial flight operations at the greenfield airport, one of India’s most ambitious aviation projects designed to strengthen connectivity across western Uttar Pradesh, the National Capital Region (NCR) and key domestic destinations.
First Flight Carries Farmers Who Contributed Land
The inaugural flight from Noida International Airport to Lucknow carried around 170 farmers from the Jewar region, including 20 women, whose families had voluntarily contributed land for the airport’s development.
The delegation was led by Dhirendra Singh and included officials from the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA), including CEO Rakesh Singh and Additional CEO Shailendra Bhatia.
The farmers are scheduled to meet Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow as part of a special programme recognising their contribution to the airport project and the region’s transformation.
The initiative highlights the significant role local communities played in enabling the development of one of India’s largest future aviation hubs.
Airport Expected To Transform Regional Connectivity
Officials said the airport is expected to significantly improve connectivity for business travellers, students, professionals and tourists while boosting economic activity across western Uttar Pradesh.
Designed as a multimodal transportation hub, the airport will integrate air, road and logistics infrastructure to support regional development and industrial growth.
Industry experts believe the airport could emerge as a major catalyst for investments across logistics, manufacturing, warehousing, tourism and real estate sectors in the coming years.
The project is also expected to complement the rapid industrialisation taking place along the Yamuna Expressway corridor.
Government Eyes Major Expansion Plans
Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu described the launch as a historic milestone and outlined ambitious expansion plans for the airport.
According to the minister, the airport will initially handle approximately 1.2 crore passengers annually. Capacity will be expanded in phases as demand grows.
Upon completion of the fourth phase, the airport is expected to accommodate up to 7 crore passengers every year, potentially making it one of Asia’s largest airports.
The minister also noted that flight operations to Bengaluru and other destinations are commencing alongside the Lucknow service, with four routes being launched initially.
Jewar Emerges As A Future Aviation Hub
The operationalisation of Noida International Airport marks a significant step in Uttar Pradesh’s broader infrastructure development strategy.
What was once primarily an agricultural region is rapidly evolving into a major aviation, logistics and industrial hub.
The airport is expected to attract domestic and international airlines while strengthening the region’s connectivity with major economic centres across India and overseas.
As passenger traffic grows and future expansion phases are completed, industry observers believe Noida International Airport could become one of India’s most important aviation gateways and a key driver of economic growth in northern India.
