The Central government has ordered the deployment of 20 additional companies of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Delhi to strengthen security arrangements amid ongoing CJP protests, demonstrations by various political parties, and the Monsoon Session of Parliament.
According to official sources, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) directed the immediate deployment on Tuesday night following multiple incidents of violent clashes during recent protests. The additional personnel are being airlifted from West Bengal, where they had remained stationed after the Assembly elections at the request of the state government.
20 CRPF Companies Airlifted from West Bengal
Officials said all 20 CRPF companies, each comprising around 100 personnel, are being flown from Kolkata to the national capital.
The deployment is aimed at reinforcing law and order in Delhi, particularly in areas expected to witness protests and demonstrations. The move comes as security agencies anticipate heightened activity during the ongoing Parliament session.
The CRPF personnel will work alongside the Delhi Police to maintain public order and ensure adequate security across sensitive locations.
Heightened Security During Parliament Session
The security reinforcement coincides with the Monsoon Session of Parliament, which began on July 20.
With Parliament in session and several political groups planning demonstrations, security agencies have increased vigilance across the capital. Officials said the additional CRPF deployment is intended to help manage crowds, prevent disruptions, and respond swiftly to any law-and-order situation.
Existing Security Already Strengthened
Prior to this latest deployment, the Centre had already provided around 30 companies of the CRPF and its specialized anti-riot unit, the Rapid Action Force (RAF), to assist the Delhi Police.
The additional 20 companies will further bolster security arrangements, particularly around protest sites, government buildings, and other sensitive areas.
Officials indicated that the decision was taken following recent incidents of violence during demonstrations, prompting the Ministry of Home Affairs to enhance security preparedness in the national capital.
The deployment underscores the government’s focus on maintaining law and order during a period of increased political activity and parliamentary proceedings.
