India’s defence manufacturing sector has reached a historic milestone, with annual defence production touching an all-time high of ₹1.78 lakh crore in the financial year 2025-26.
According to the Ministry of Defence, the latest figure marks a 15.6% increase over the ₹1.54 lakh crore recorded in FY25 and reflects the country’s growing focus on self-reliance in defence manufacturing.
The achievement also highlights the rapid transformation of India’s defence ecosystem under the government’s push for indigenous production, private sector participation, and reduced dependence on imports.
Most notably, defence production has more than doubled in the last five years. From ₹84,643 crore in FY21, India’s defence output has surged over 110% to reach the current record level.
