Startup Scales Opt-In AI Recording Service, Says Anonymized Footage Will Train Future AI Models

Home services startup Pronto has announced the expansion of its AI-powered wearable camera initiative through a new opt-in offering called Pronto Verified, allowing service sessions inside customers’ homes to be recorded while using anonymized footage to train the company’s artificial intelligence models.

The announcement marks the next phase of a program that was first reported as a pilot earlier this year. According to the company, Pronto Verified is entirely optional and has been designed to improve service transparency, customer trust, and AI capabilities while providing higher earnings for service professionals.

The move places Pronto among the first Indian home services platforms to publicly scale AI-powered wearable cameras as part of its commercial operations.

What Is Pronto Verified?

Pronto Verified is an opt-in booking option where customers voluntarily choose to have their home service sessions recorded using wearable cameras worn by professionals.

According to the company, the recordings create a verifiable record of the work completed, giving customers greater confidence while also enabling professionals to earn significantly higher payouts.

Pronto stated that service professionals currently receive approximately double the earnings for every Verified booking compared with standard service requests.

The company emphasized that customers are informed about the recording process at multiple stages before the booking is confirmed.

AI Training Using Anonymized Footage

Pronto confirmed that anonymized video footage collected during Verified bookings is used to train its AI systems.

The company said customers are informed in advance that recordings may contribute to AI model development.

Consent is obtained multiple times throughout the booking process, including once again when the service professional arrives at the customer’s location.

Customers also retain the option to decline recording at any point and switch to a standard Pronto booking without affecting access to the service.

According to Pronto, the AI training process uses only anonymized footage where personally identifiable information has been removed.

Privacy Measures and Data Protection

Addressing privacy concerns, Pronto said the wearable camera records video only and does not capture audio.

The company outlined several safeguards for handling customer data:

  • Raw footage is encrypted directly on the device.
  • Original recordings are automatically deleted immediately after the service session concludes.
  • Raw videos are never viewed by human reviewers.
  • Faces and personally identifiable information are blurred or removed before any footage is retained.
  • Customers can review the anonymized recording within 48 hours before it is used for AI training.

Pronto also stated that the camera is positioned downward to primarily capture the professional’s hands, forearms, and work area rather than the surrounding household environment.

Consent for Household Members

The company acknowledged concerns regarding children, family members, domestic staff, or visitors who may appear during recordings.

According to Pronto, customers are asked during the booking process to confirm that they are providing consent on behalf of everyone present in the home.

The company maintains that its camera positioning minimizes the likelihood of capturing individuals outside the immediate work area.

Regulatory Response

When asked whether the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) or any other regulator had sought clarification following public discussions around the pilot program earlier this year, Pronto did not provide a direct response.

Instead, the company said it has had “encouraging engagement” with relevant stakeholders and suggested that earlier concerns largely resulted from misunderstandings about how the program functioned.

Pronto added that customer disclosures have since been strengthened and are now presented explicitly at multiple stages of the booking process.

Founder Outlines Long-Term Vision

Pronto founder Anjali Sardana recently shared additional details about the initiative through a LinkedIn post.

She reiterated that Pronto Verified remains a voluntary service where customers actively choose recorded bookings.

According to Sardana, the program is intended to improve accountability while simultaneously creating high-quality real-world datasets that can help train AI models for future home service applications.

She also reaffirmed that customers pay a premium for Verified bookings, professionals receive higher compensation, recordings exclude audio, raw footage is deleted after completion, and only anonymized data is retained for AI development.

Outlook

As AI becomes increasingly integrated into consumer services, Pronto’s expansion of wearable camera technology represents a notable shift in how home service platforms may balance transparency, operational quality, and artificial intelligence development.

While the company has emphasized customer consent and privacy protections, the broader adoption of AI-powered recording inside private homes is likely to remain an area of close scrutiny from regulators, privacy advocates, and consumers.

The success of Pronto Verified could influence how other home services platforms approach AI training and customer trust in the years ahead.
